This installation was actually three small installations which was a bit challenging. As the lead buildier I had my hands full with trying to get everyone's pieces ready at the same time and it was a bit stressful. Luckily, I tend to do well under stress or this sort and it all came together in the end.
Play the Future explored automation via a short text-based game made with Twine. The game required you to make choices that eith effected the economy or social good. Once you finished you received a prediction for the future you created by your choices. It was great.
I enjoyed making the arcade inspired cabinets for this game. I was happy with how the graphics all came out too. It can be time-consuming, but I love the effect you get with custom vinyl graphics.
Making Time was a timeline that asked people for predictions in different fields at different points in the future. Specifically they asked about healthcare, education, and technology in 2027, 2037, and 2047. Groups asked were children, graduate students, and administrators.
This is the same wall that was used in Innovation In & Out of the Classroom installtion. I'm glad we used it for this project too because it was a beast to build.
The third part of the installtion was the dorm of 2047, or Within Boundaries. the room this group imagined was 8x8x8 and had two very different occupants. One was an international student who cared about the social good and the other had a more conservative attitude. You get a tiny taste in this picture, but everything in the room was chosen specifically with those two personas in mind.
This is the outside of the dorm of 2047 with the making time timeline in the background. It is one of the first large signs I've installed. It was about 5ft tall and 6ft wide. Since then I've done a few other big signs and learned a lot about how to handle large vinyl pieces.
